I really need to use the bathroom.
It's 10:06, and i'm in Caracas, Venezuela. At about 7 this morning, our bus arrived. We left Lima, Peru at 1:30pm on Monday. I had some sort of fruit cake, cinnimin roll mixup and a large coffee. Then we found the internet place.
I'm coming home pretty soon. I'm really excited about that.
I like writing. There's a weird back and forth thing i've got going. Writing in order to be published makes sense. A hope that someone else might take something valuable from something i've worked on. But i think that writing for the purpose of someone else can very easily turn preachy.
So i want to write for other people, but i want to forget that's what i'm doing.
Anyway, my hour is up. There's a public washroom around the corner. I'll see you there, but not really.
simon.
It said "good news! you can fly home from Lima for 516 dollars each". I didn't think it was very good news at all.
We've been taking in the lima scene the past few days. on monday we're taking a bus to caracas. It's a four day bus trip. Thanks for the columbia offer sarah. I wish i had time.
Caracas will hold us for four or five days, then we fly home. I'm pretty excited about getting home. It's just that time of year, i think.
I'm also excited about being in a band for the first time. I think good things will happen.
I'm also excited about being home for the summer for the first time in a while. Summer is a wonderful time of year, and this year i'll be among my longest running friendships. Wonderful.

I've written Sheri, the travel agent, and i've asked if we can fly home from Lima. Our original plan was to extend the trip by two weeks so as to not be rushing through equador, columbia, and venezuela. The new plan is to cut those three countries from the itinerary.
Should be arriving in halifax on the third. I've been playing lots of bass, i think i'm band ready. I am totally ready to come back.
But while i'm here, i think i should be able to fit in a nice week of beach before liftoff. That's if we can fly home from peru. If we can't, then this whole south american ordeal will go down beach free. And that's silly.
Life is probably gonna work out great.

Just picked up an hour long massage for 30 peruvian soles, about 10 beans. I feel really good. Knee's a little weak, but shit.
So happy to be back with the bass guitar. It was in a storage room in a hostal in cusco while i was out hiking the andes. I bought a little notebook to write out bass lessons for myself. Good good.
Bussing out of this town tomorrow, me thinks. Either a 18 hour bus to Lima, or the side route, first to Ariquepa (possibly for sandboarding) and then lima. Lima is just a stopover on the way to Trujillo, which has a two km wave. The longest left break in the world, i've been told. If i hit some waves in northern peru, i'll be a happy pete.
I love you.

Machu Picchu was the fifth day. Real neat spot.
Well done Inkas, you earned your death. I wonder what can be made that deserves to last.
I've been reading some blogs. I want to write things worthwhile. I'm slightly convinced that nothing is worth while.
After a little hike away from Machu Picchu (which means old mountain) towards Waynupicchu (young mountain) our crew stopped for lunch on a nice little mountain ridgetop. I spent more time dreamingly looking at the mountains i was encircled by than looking at the 500 year old stone city. Nature is where it's at.
My favorite thing is the rock walls. Giant rocks that have been cut (somehow) and lifted (somehow) to form walls. I just love them.
Should i try to create a ciudad perdida (lost city)? Apparently Machu Picchu was home to about 750, and mostly for the purpose of education. 70% of the cemetary was women, the rest: men and children. Maybe it's important to find a place to get away. It must be important to have a home that you're proud of. Good to know where you're from. Mixed feelings about knowing where you're going.
I'm mixed up. Maybe a little home sick. We're pushing our plane tickets back two weeks because we need more time to see some things. I'm tired from the hike. My knee is ferocious.
Love is somewhere.

Back in Cusco. This place is money.

Did a little hike through the andes there. 85km in 5 days. Went over a pass of 4500m. Hard to breathe up there. A boy from vancouver smoked us all after the pass, at about 4100, before three more hours of hiking. I had a bit of a feinting spell.
